Lesley Croxford

Lesley Croxford studied at Colchester Institute and Wimbledon School of Art where she achieved a first class honours degree. She has exhibited twice at the Royal Academy Stowells Trophy Exhibition and also at the Royal Festival Hall, the Institute of Contemporary Arts, Kettles Yard Cambridge and extensively in East Anglia.

Lesley’s paintings are representational but literal accuracy is not her main concern. Instead she tries to recreate what she sees by heightening colour and exaggerating shape. By keeping the memory of the first visual experience through repeated painting of the same subject she distils it to make the image more potent. By constantly returning to her subject she eventually knows it well enough to have the freedom to take chances. This allows her paintings to gain life from the energy and assurance that arise from her intense observation and emotional engagement with her subject.
